Bombay Velvet’s first posters have been released. Ranbir looks dapper and Anushka looks classy in the first look peeks we have had into Bombay Velvet’s making.
Bombay Velvet is being produced under director Anurag Kashyap’s banner Phantom productions. The movie stars heart throbs Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar, K.K. Menon and Raveena Tandon. The lead pair’s in-costume pics have been released and we must admit that it is quite the retro look!

Reportedly, Anurag had earlier offered the lead male role to Saif Ali Khan way back in 2006, when he refused he later turned to Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Once they had turned down he tried out other actors. Apparently he was looking for a star big enough who could help him get the 300 crore financing he needed to make the film in a no-holds-barred manner. But when his plans didn’t materialize he went with Ranbir Kapoor. His present budget is said to be 90 crores only.
The budget problems were further highlighted with the ill-famed letter written by the film’s Indian editor, Prerna Saigal which was leaked (source). She had addressed this letter to Kashyap and the co-producers. She wrote in the letter about a break-in into her apartment in NY while she was editing the movie with the famed editor Thelma Schoonmaker. She seemed furious that Phantom’s penny pinching had led to her apartment address being switched several times while she away and that the production company had not taken proper measures to provide her a more secure and private place while she was in NY.
Bombay Velvet Hindi neo-noir drama film set in the ’60s and based on historian Gyan Prakash’s book, Mumbai Fables. The story revolves around a boxer Johnny Balraj and an aspiring singer, Rosie and traces their lives’ journeys as they fall in love while trying to further their own careers. The movie has mostly been shot in Sri-Lanka. It was scheduled to be released in 2014 but was pushed back because of the extensive VFX work needed in order to create that bygone era. The film is expected to be released in May, 2015.
